The Type 69 (Chinese: 69式; pinyin: Liùjiǔ shì) and Type 79 (Chinese: 79式; pinyin: Qījiǔ shì) are two models of Chinese main battle tanks. Both developments of the Type 59 medium tank (which was based on the Soviet T-54A medium tank) were the first independently developed main battle tanks by China. Their lineage can be seen through the distinct gap between the first and second roadwheels. Other improvements included a new engine, ballistic computers, and laser rangefinders. The more advanced Type 79 was equipped with a 105 mm rifled gun, also seen on the later Type 88 tank.
This is the most common version of the Type 69 family. The Type 69-II is equipped with the a 100 mm rifled gun derived from the 100 mm gun of the Type 59. This tank incorporates a new fire control system, which includes the TSFC 2-axis gun stabilization, a new Type 70 gunner's sight, laser rangefinder, and ballistic computer. The Type 69-II can be distinguished from the earlier Type 59 by the rear engine plate that has a small elliptical bulge for the cooling fan. This version also has the driver's headlights mounted in two pairs on the fenders, not on the hull glacis. Some of these tanks were also outfitted with "Boom Shield" stand-off armor baskets on the turret.
The Type 69-II is a very weak tank, due to its poor gun and armor. The Type 69-II should be best played as a support unit (If you want to get some xp or steal kills.) But if you are brave the Type 69 is an excellent at hit and cover or just trading shots. However, the Type 69-ll doesn't have a lack oh health points, in total a number of 770 from the start. The low armor doesn't repel shots often. Also, this tank is quiet slow, which makes it difficult for a player to surround players, or circle your enemy. The reload is average, most of the Chinese in-game vehicles do have a reload time of 2.4 seconds. But, like the other Chinese MBT's, the turret rotation is a big pro.
Pros and Cons
- Upper glacis and frontal turret armor are decently protective
- Great health pool
- Very fast turret rotation speed (like that of the Type 59)
- Horrible armor besides the front, even worse than the Type 59, total absence of reactive armor
- Speed is somewhat slow
- Cannot use HEAT ammo
